Visual Aspects Development in a Website
The design process of a website which includes writing markup for a client and encompasses many skills and disciplines in the production and maintenance of a website is referred to as web design. The various skills and disciplines contained in web design include web graphic design, interface design, user experience design, search engine optimization and authoring which include standardized code and proprietary software. An individual who wishes to do web design should be aware of the web usability which is the ease of use of a website. If the individual is also mandated with creating mark up, he/she should also be well updated to the web accessibility guidelines. Due to the many aspects of web design, some web designers may work as a team each covering a different aspect although there are some designers who are able to manage all the aspects. Web design and web engineering are somehow related although web engineering is broader and focuses mostly on methodologies, techniques, and tools that form the foundation for web application development which support their design, development, evolution and evaluation.
Depending on the part of production processes one is involved in during web design, different variety of tools are used which keeps on being updated by newer standards and software. The most used graphics editor for creating web formatted imagery or design prototypes are the vector and raster. Vectors graphics use polygon to represent images in graphics which can be saved in any vector graphics format such as WMF and PDF. Raster graphics use dot matrix data structure representing a grid of pixels or points of color viewable on a monitor which can be saved in any bitmap or raster format such as JPEG and GIF. There are several technologies used in web design including the W3C standards like HTML and CSS. These can be done by online proprietary tools provided by web hosting companies which are intended for users to build their private site or it can be done by an offline software running on a computer creating pages and then these pages can be published on any host. Markup validators for checking validity and other testing tools for usability and accessibility to ensure all the guidelines for web accessibility have been met are also used in the process of web design.
During web design process, the web designer and the web developer works hand in hand in creating a website. The major focus of a web designer is the visual aspects of a web page which includes the layout coloring and typography. A web designer should also have knowledge of the markup language which is a system involved in annotating a document in a way that it is syntactically distinguishable from a text such as the HTML and CSS.
